McHenry Sportsman’s Club Newsletter (December 2008)

PRACTICE ROUND COSTS - Practice round prices will remain the same.

FINANCIAL STATUS - The Club finished 2008 in excellent shape even though December was a very poor month due to cold and snow.   The Club was able to place an additional $2,000 in the Trap Account and prepay January and February, 2009 lease costs of $3,000.   In accordance with Not-for-Profit rules, the Club finished the year with no net profit.

TRAP OPERATIONS - The Club only threw 772 practice rounds in December which was 28% more than December 2007.   Target costs were $1,418 in December.

  • Traps are operating properly.   As it gets colder, we will see windmilling occasionally when a trap is warming up, especially #3.
  • Other equipment appears to be operating properly.

PROJECTS - Harvey Scharlau and Gene Higby repaired the target tractor hood.

LIFE MEMBERSHIPS AWARDED - The Board voted to award Life Memberships to Harvey Scharlau, Gary Lottinville, Denny Deniston, and George Strode in recognition of their many years of service to the club.   A Life Membership was also awarded to Stuart Gordon for making a $1,000 donation to the Trap Fund.

NEW TRAP - The Board voted to purchase a new Pat Trap with wobble option for delivery in March 2009.   The Trap Fund has $9,000 in it which will cover the cost of the new trap, shipping and installation.   The new trap will go in #3 and the trap in #3 will be moved to #1.   The Remington in #1 will be retained as a spare trap.   When the new trap is installed we will have a Pat Trap in each house.

WINTER JACKRABBIT - Support your club by shooting the Jack Rabbit.   Take the opportunity to travel to other clubs each Sunday for a 50 target shoot.   See the announcement on the bulletin board.

NEW DUMPSTER - Due to a new McHenry County ordinance, we can no longer burn boxes.   A new dumpster has been put in place for boxes and other Club trash.   Dumpster cost will be about $10 per month more than the old trash service.   Please FLATTEN all boxes placed in the dumpster to make sure we will have enough space.

CLUB PATCHES - the new 3½" club patches are in and may be purchased for $5 at the counter.

WINTER operating hours are 11AM-4PM due to early darkness.   We return to regular hours April 1st.

NEXT CLUB MEETING - Saturday, February 8, 2009 at 4:30PM in the Club House.
